Kid’s Room Design for Every Age

Designing children’s rooms is one of our favorite things to do. Usually, they provide an opportunity to express personality, whimsy, fantasy, or even a different setting. As children grow, a child’s room can also be redesigned more than once.

Princesses and pirates. Taking a child to another place with a theme is always fun. Above left is a princess room designed for a little girl whose family had just moved from Paris. A Parisian print bedding set, a crown over the headboard, and a vanity table for playing with jewelry and hair ribbons make for a fanciful bedroom. In the pirate room, boys have a reason to never grow up. They can travel to any land they can imagine thanks to their pirate boat mast and working pirate wheel.

In this room, a girl’s room with pink, blue, and purple colors has been transformed into a teenage boy’s room. An angled design with white and black is featured on the statement wall. There is even a gaming area with top-notch furnishings in this masculine space. Above right is a room for a teenage girl whose style was soft, feminine, bohemian/eclectic. In a small space, the suspended “egg” swing provides a comfy lounge area.

In the image above left, the goal was to create a fun and happy guest room for grandchildren that was gender-neutral. Animal print artwork inspired yellow, bright orange, and turquoise colors. This room was designed for a growing family of grandchildren and their friends. Colorful artwork depicting sea creatures and ocean buoys, as well as coral bedding, add a fun element to the room. In the play area, emerald puffs provide seating.

There are often challenges associated with ceilings. Keeping the molding white and using a pink hue enhanced the details of the huge ceiling above left. The chandelier adds a dramatic touch to the ceiling. With the sloped ceiling on the right, a custom paint treatment in hot pink with blue geometric lines draw the eye to the bedding.

Combined with the pink walls, the 3D mural opposite the bed adds glamour to the room, drawing the eye away from the asymmetrical sloped ceiling. What better way to transform an old library room into a daughter’s oasis than with colossal gold lips as wall art?
