Is a decorating project on your list of New Year’s resolutions?

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Here are some of the latest ideas and tips we offered here in the past year if your New Year’s Resolution is to finally get started on that decorating project you’ve been putting off. In addition to colour and furnishings, there were two styles to learn about, and ideas for making design work for you.
A total of four new colour palettes will be introduced by Sherwin- Williams in 2023, using existing colours from the company. Each palette is based on a story that highlights how interior decorating influences mental health and the impact colours have on mood, setting a scene, and generating conversation.
The palette called Lore is inspired by “the call to create that is woven into the fiber of our being, present in the very air we breathe, connecting us to a community of makers that spans centuries and crosses cultures.” Lore is available in Wallflower, Studio Mauve, Carnelian, Toile Red, Serape, Dhurrie Beige, Pediment, Mineral Gray, Blue Peacock, and Nugget. The Origin palette is about “mapping our inner world.” The SW colour team suggests that “to map our way through the wild and wonderful landscape of our lives, we have to start within.” It comes in Fabulous Grape, Peppery, Goldfish, Chartreuse, Kale Green, Pure White, Skyline Steel, Homestead Brown, Black Magic, and Indigo colours.

Keeping on the colour theme, we urged readers to design with black to create sophistication and elegance. Adding black to a room can make it look dramatic. It is the same feeling as making an entrance in just the right black attire when black is used just right in a room. Find out more by clicking here.
We also introduced you to two new design styles that are becoming more popular: Hellenistic and Hygge. Draw inspiration from the Hellenistic period if you’re looking for a fantastical look for a room. This design pays homage to ancient Greece by incorporating aesthetic elements into contemporary décor. With this aesthetic, classic elements are infused into a stylish aesthetic that will not look dated in years to come. You can combine modern components with historical components to create a strange yet warm design. By using statues and patterns, we can create a relaxing, imaginative environment that connects us to our heritage. This trend combines the best of nostalgic design with Greek opulence. If Hellenistic design is all about the visual, Hygge design is all about the soul. Hygge (pronounced hyoo-guh), is a Danish design philosophy that promotes contentment and well-being through thoughtful space planning and decoration. A comfortable living space is a foundational element. By using candles and scents, you can create the right mood. A sense of tranquility is enhanced by greenery, plants, and other elements of nature. A home office with a traditional style chaise lounge upholstered in two different fabrics - a lattice patterned fabric in cream and beige and a solid beige fabric. The chaise is positioned in the corner of the home office, in front of a window with blinds and stationary panels. The walls are painted a soft shade of pink, and there is a wallpapered feature wall with a lattice pattern behind a glass desk. On the right side of the chaise, there is a natural wood console with a table lamp resting on it. The space is well-lit with natural light, and the overall design is cohesive and comfortable.
